Our hearty all-day breakfasts, sandwiches and salads make us a great lunch or dinner destination, and come nightfall, we are the perfect place to kick back with some friends over a couple of beers, or a glass of wine.
Our Story
black was founded by a few friends who were fanatical about coffee, food and vintage furniture. We first opened our doors at Hitachi Tower in May 2009, and soon established ourselves as one of the hippest places to meet and unwind in Raffles Place. In the same year, we decided to bring our concept to Singapore’s shopping belt, and opened our second branch in the freshly renovated TripleOne Somerset in December 2009. A unique and laid-back space tucked behind bustling Orchard Road, our second branch ensures that the black experience is accessible to you every day of the week.
Our Coffee
Our house espresso blend comprises arabica beans from Ethiopia, Brazil, Costa Rica and Sumatra. It is an unpretentious, full-bodied espresso, heavy with a golden-brown crema and with a caramel-like viscosity. In milk, it stands out well with hints of chocolate and a lingering aftertaste. We order our freshly roasted beans in small batches, and ensure that they are consumed within a very narrow window of time. Our baristas are trained to extract espressos which reflect the full personality of the blend, and to steam fresh milk for each cup to the perfect temperature, bringing out the milk’s natural sweetness.
